SmartHub Phishing Alert
One of the new phishing attempts hackers are using to target utilities and their members is impersonation of SmartHub login pages. The reported impersonated pages included the utility’s logo, as well as the SmartHub logo to give the appearance of legitimacy. Upon providing credentials, victims were prompted to enter sensitive information including a credit card number, as well as a social number.
Hackers have the ability to use a variety of methods to reach consumers. Typically, they will provide a link in either an e-mail or text. The best practices for accessing the Lane-Scott SmartHub website or mobile app are as follows:
-
Never access the SmartHub webpage using a link! Enter the correct URL: https://lanescott.smarthub.coop into the web browser, or access SmartHub through our Lane Scott website https://www.lanescott.coop.
-
Confirm the URL (https://lanescott.smarthub.coop) by hovering over the link or copy and paste the link into another web browser.
-
Download the SmartHub App on Mobile Device to access your account securely through the app to decrease the website error.
-
Enable the two-factor authentication in your SmartHub account. (Located in Settings > Security)
-
If an email stresses urgency needed to resolve any issues with your account do not use any links, buttons, or attachments within the email. Login to your SmartHub App or website directly or call the Lane-Scott office at 620-397-5327.
