Lane-Scott Electric Returns Over $445,000 in Capital Credits
December is a time of holiday celebration and giving. At Lane-Scott, December is also the time we give back to our members! As a non-profit electric cooperative, our members are more than customers, they are owners. Meaning they are invested in their cooperative and have a share in the earnings. Lane-Scott Electric operates differently than other utilities. We operate at cost, giving us the opportunity to retire funds that exceed our operating expenses back to our members in the form of capital credits.
This year, the Lane-Scott Electric Board of Trustees approved a capital credits retirement of over $445,000 to current and past members who had electric service during 2000 and part of 2001. The amount members receive is based on the amount of electricity used (kilowatt-hours) during the payout year.
Eligible current members were mailed a letter in late October with the choice to either receive a check or credit to their electric account. If a response was not received by the Nov. 10 deadline, the amount was credited to the member’s primary electric account. Past members will receive a check to the address on file at Lane-Scott. It is important that Lane-Scott has the current mailing address for past members to ensure delivery of capital credit checks.
