Lane-Scott Electric Announces Electric Cooperative Youth Tour and Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp Delegates
Each year, electric cooperatives across the nation sponsor exceptional high school students to attend the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour in Washington, D.C. and the Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp near Steamboat Springs, CO.
This year, Lane-Scott Electric has selected Emma Petersilie, from Ness City, and Margaret Hineman, from Scott City, to attend the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour. During the tour, students will see their nation’s capital up close, learn about the political process, meet key policymakers and industry leaders. Alongside their peers, they will have the opportunity to visit the U.S. Capitol, the White House, and national memorial museums and monuments such as the Holocaust Museum, George Washington’s Mt. Vernon, Arlington National Cemetery, and the Smithsonian museums.
Lyssa Beesley, from Dighton, and Alliah Garza, from Bazine, are joining students from cooperative communities in Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Wyoming in July to travel to the beautiful Rocky Mountains for the Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp. During this week-long adventure, campers will engage in activities to develop leadership and speaking skills, learn about democracy, gain an understanding of the cooperative business model, and hear testimonials from influential leaders. Along with professional development, Beesley and Garza will experience the beauty of the area through a variety of outdoor activities including white water rafting and hiking.
Both of these invaluable all-experiences-paid programs offer more than just an opportunity to travel – they inspire the next generation of leaders, strengthen their sense of civic duty, and cultivate the values cooperatives stand for. Congratulations to all our winners!
