Lane-Scott Electric, in partnership with CoBank is awarding four $1,000 grant this year through the Sharing Success Program. The first recipient is the Frank Stull American Legion Auxiliary. The grant is to be used to install a handicap ramp into the American Legion and Auxiliary meeting room which is used for various community, civic and private events. The handicap access will allow their members to help with their community events and meeting and allow them to hold more events to benefit the veterans and youth programs.
The second grant recipient is the Ness County Fire District #1, located in Ness City. The grant is to be used to purchase firefighting equipment such as firefighter’s bunker gear, SCBA gear (oxygen bottles), foam, gel and other fire retardants used in fighting CRP and other grass fires. The fire department is a volunteer department and primarily serves the Township areas of Center, Forrester, Franklin, Eden, and Johnson in Ness County. Secondary areas are the remaining Townships in Ness County and neighboring contiguous continues.
Lane County Lions Club will use the grant to enhance their signature program of providing meals to the youth and homebound adults of Lane County. The program was originally created to provide healthy meals for youth during the weekend when they might not have healthy choices available when not in school. The program continues to grow, serving a need in the community.
Western Kansas Child Advocacy serves 34 counties in Western, KS. The mission of the organization is to heal the trauma of abuse to children and families through prevention, support, and services. The grant will help purchase education and prevention resources that assist the children and families heal from the trauma of abuse. Some of these materials include books written from survivors and their journey of healing.
