Hawkinson Promoted to Operations Manager
Dal Hawkinson was promoted to the operations manager at Lane-Scott Electric effective March 1. In 2003, Hawkinson was hired as a summer intern during his junior year in high school. After graduation, he joined Lane-Scott full-time and completed his 4-year apprenticeship to become a journeyman lineman. In addition to his lineman work, he has taken on additional responsibilities including Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reporting, monthly operations reports, and is the unofficial meter technician. To prepare for the career path ahead, he completed his highline engineering staking certification and other training opportunities.
“After I began helping with the reporting and technical aspect, I realized I enjoyed it,” he said when asked what inspired him to pursue a promotion. “From there, it just snowballed as I took on more and more responsibilities. I will still get to work in the field about half the time, so get to do both jobs I enjoy.”
As the operations manager, Hawkinson manages Lane-Scott’s personnel and operations including construction, maintenance, and engineering, as well as oversees equipment and vehicles. In his new role, he will report directly to the general manager with direct supervision of the line superintendent and engineering coordinator, and indirect supervision of all operations employees.
“I am excited that Dal has taken on this responsibility. He has the drive, the ethics, and the heart to do great things for the people and resources put under his stewardship, said General Manager/CEO Richard McLeon. “The electric utility industry is changing rapidly, and we are blessed to have employees like Dal to ensure that Lane-Scott Electric continues its’ mission of providing safe, reliable, and affordable energy to our members.”
Hawkinson is a great example of someone whose hard work, extra-efforts, and team mentality has led to success. If you see him, be sure to congratulate him on a job well earned.
