Lane-Scott Electric’s Cold Weather Rule in Effect November 15
Lane-Scott Electric wants to ensure members who are unable to meet their electric utility payments have the service needed to keep their homes warm during cold winter days. Members who find themselves in this situation must call Lane-Scott Electric to make a cold weather rule payment arrangement. It is the belief of some that once the cold weather rule is in effect, electric bills can be ignored, and their service will not be disconnected. This is not true.
When Does the Cold Weather Rule Apply?
The intent of the CWR is to ensure human health and safety are not endangered during the cold weather months. The co-op will not disconnect service from November 15 – March 15 when the Dodge City National Weather Service forecasts temperatures to drop below 35 degrees or will be in the mid-30’s or colder within the following 48-hour time period. When temperatures rise above 35 degrees, service will be disconnected if payment arrangements have not been made ahead of time.
Payment Guidelines
- Agree to make an initial payment of 1/12th of the overdue amount of the bill, plus 1/12th of the current bill, all disconnection and reconnection fees, and 1/12th of the applicable deposit. A payment plan can be made for the remainder of the arrearage if necessary.
- Complete the payment arrangement plan in full in less than a 12-month time.
- Must pay future bills in full while paying off the overdue amount.
Members must contact Lane-Scott if these requirements cannot be met during a payment arrangement period.
Can I be Disconnected During the Cold Weather Rule?
Yes. Disconnection will not occur when temperatures are forecasted to go below 35 degrees over the following 48 hours. However, when the temperature is forecasted to stay above 35 degrees for 24 hours, service will be disconnected. To prevent disconnection, you must make payment arrangements with Lane-Scott Electric and follow the arrangement.
