Annual Meeting Highlights

The 71st Annual Meeting of Lane-Scott Electric was held on July 20, 2021, at the Lane Co. Fairgrounds in Dighton, KS. Approximately 400 Lane-Scott Electric members and guests gathered on a beautiful, mild summer evening for a complimentary BBQ dinner by John Ross & Co. Signature Catering of Garden City, KS, and free fair rides for the kids.

The business portion of the Annual Meeting included approval of the Minutes from the 2020 Annual meeting and Treasurer’s Report. Recognition of employees and trustees, with special recognition to Kathy Lewis who received her 30-year service award, Michael Pollock and Chris Terhune who received their 15-year awards.

General Manager, Richard McLeon announced the six 2021 Continuing Education Scholarship recipients, Kaden Bradstreet, Kyle Doll, Alysson Foos, Patrick O’Toole, Eli Rupp, and Kiley Whipple. Mr. McLeon presented his Manager’s Report which included the financial situation of Lane-Scott Electric, a recap of the year, events of 2020, how circumstances of COVID-19 affected the cooperative, and lastly the February Winter Event. 

This year we had two special presentations. Doug Shepard, the VP of Management Consulting Services at the Kansas Electric Cooperatives (KEC). Mr. Shepard gave an update on the affairs at KEC, and the relationship and services provided to rural electric cooperatives. The Dighton Elementary School Kid Wind Team, BTU Crew, consisting of fifth and six grade students Cordell Davis, Hank Davis, Weston Johnson, and Charlie Vogel also presented. The BTU Crew won their 2021 State competition and participated at the National competition. The team delivered an informative presentation on their wind turbine and gave a demonstration following the meeting.

Voting for the election of three board of trustee positions and By-Law Amendments concluded. Ballots were collected at the end of the meeting and winners were announced in the days following the annual meeting after ballots were counted. Results of the election were: Representing Ness and Rush County District, Harold Hoss; representing Scott and Logan County District, Craig Ramsey; representing Lane and Gove County District, Richard Jennison. All proposed By-Law Amendments passed.

Raffle prizes were handed out during the meeting, and everyone received either a multi-tool or car-tote bag as a gift from Lane-Scott.
