FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FROM LANE-SCOTT ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE
PREPARE FOR EXTENDED OUTAGES
Lane-Scott Electric currently has over 2,400 meters out across our service territory and with the forecasted weather conditions, the likely hood of more before the storm subsides.
The wind is causing lines to gallop which causes flickering, surges, blown fuses, and outages. When lines gallop, as soon as we get some line back on, the phases make contact, and it goes off again. The same goes for the high-voltage power lines feeding our substations. Visibility has become limited and road conditions unsafe for crews to travel.
Unfortunately, until winds die-down and visibility improves, we are unable to get to outages. The forecast is saying high winds will possibly continue through the evening and overnight. We are hopeful we will be able to begin restoration tomorrow. We apologize, but unfortunately are at the mercy of mother nature.
Safety Reminders:
- If you are in need of medical equipment and do not have access to a generator, call 911.
- Remember, never attempt to clear downed lines yourself and never touch power lines. If you encounter a downed line, report it immediately to emergency personnel.
- If you are using a standby generator, you MUST throw the transfer switch first before turning on the generator. Failure to do so can cause back feed onto the line and electrocute anyone working on them.
- Never operate a generator indoors or in a closed garage. Carbon monoxide can be deadly if not properly ventilated.
- If you do not have a heat source, it is much easier to heat a small space than a large one. Close off a room, keep window coverings closed, and door cracks covered. Layer your clothes and use blankets to keep your natural heat close to your body as long as possible.
