Transferring or Disconnecting Service

Transferring Service

Moving to a new residence in our service territory that already has a Lane-Scott Electric meter, or transferring an account to someone else? No problem! The account must be listed in your name to request the transfer of service. Simply call our office M-F 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. or visit our office and we'll be happy to help.

The process is similar to that of creating a new service.

  • A service agreement must be filled out and signed for each service location.
  • If you have a current deposit, it will be transferred to your new service location account.

If transferring an account to someone else not currently on the account, that person must also call to set up the account in their name and follow the process of setting up service.

Disconnecting Service

If you are moving:

We appreciate your business and we hope you have been satisfied with our service. The account must be listed in your name to request disconnection and we will need to know the following information:

  • Your present address and/or forwarding address. This is required to send your final bill and/or returned deposit if there was one.
  • Be prepared to tell us the date you would like to disconnect your service.

Your meter will be read on the date of requested disconnect and any remaining energy charges from the bill cycle will appear on your final bill. Depending on where you are in the billing cycle, this could take up to two billing cycles to finalize. Your deposit if there is one, will automatically be applied to your closing bill (unless otherwise specified.) Any bills left unpaid will be turned over to a collection agency. Please make sure we have a correct forwarding address to ensure the bill is sent to the proper place. You will also need to make sure and keep your contact information with us current after you have closed your account. Capital credit allocations may be made in the future, and we will need to know where to send them.

* Remember your electricity bill is based on the electricity you've already used from the 25th to the 25th of the prior month.

Unused Meters

Lane-Scott does not charge to disconnect a service. When a member abandons a service location or request to disconnect their service, the cooperative reserves the right to remove infrastructure after 6 months of non-use. This may include removing the meter, poles, transformers, conductor, or any equipment.

Idle Service

Lane-Scott offers an idle service rate for services that have been disconnected and have been idle for 6 months or longer. Payment for idle service is $63.00 annually, payable in advance. If the service is reconnected during the twelve month period, the remaining part of the payment will be applied to the ensuing monthly bills.
