Lane-Scott Electric Supports Local Communities with Sharing Success Grants
Last month we announced our first two recipients of the Sharing Success Grants, the American Legion Riders Post 392 and the Ness City Leisure Years Center. We are awarding four $1,000 grants this year to organizations who benefit a community or communities who receive electric service from Lane-Scott Electric. We are pleased to announce our final two recipients for this year’s grants.
The Ransom VFW Post 7972. The VFW’s purpose is to help improve the lives of Veterans and their families and the communities they live in. Community Service is one of their philanthropic pillars, having been recognized for the past 50 years for their efforts. Some of their activities include serving community meals on certain holidays and Sundays, youth programs such as ensuring area youth are provided with a Christmas present from Santa and holding annual fund raisers for the local Honor Flight which serves eight counties in the area. They also make sure their local Veterans and citizens get to their doctor appointments and assist Veterans in filling out claims with the Veterans Administration. The $1000 grant will assist with the Western Plains Honor Flight to help area Veterans experience Washington D.C., to visit the various military monuments with other deserving veterans from across the United States. Local high school students also gain from the experience by serving as guardians for the Veterans.
Also receiving one of the four grants is the Lane County Fire Department. The Lane County Fire Department is a volunteer department which serves a population of around 1,569 and 711 square miles consisting of 32 volunteers with 5 rural fire stations throughout the county. The department has 18 trucks that are readily available for use in the county and one truck dedicated for use in the City of Dighton. Billie Barnett, the Lane County Emergency Management Coordinator said, “Lane County Fire will always have the need to keep our gear new and in compliance. We plan to use the grant to purchase safety equipment such as extraction and gran bin rescue equipment.”
The application period for 2023 will begin in January and go through the end of April. More information about the Sharing Success Grant Program can be found on our website at https://www.lanescott.coop/cobank-sharing-success-grant-program.
